Layher House, Pennfield:
UPDATE: The seller has accepted our buyers' offer! Keep an eye on the blog here at MODERN West Michigan for updates.
ALSO: Previously identified as the Wilbur Alles house, the actual original owners were Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Layher (Alles was actually the second owner). What's more, it seems that not only is this indeed the work of Will Willsey, it is actually the result of a collaboration between Willsey and Lee Kawahara.
This block and cypress Usonian (believed to be the work of Taliesin Fellow Will Willsey) is in need of rescuing. Built in 1951, the home sits on 2½ lots in a neighborhood of traditional houses. Most recent owner allowed the house to fall into disrepair and there is evidence of water damage and moisture problems throughout.
